The conkers we brought into nursery provided lots of learning opportunities this week, many of which were child initiated. Filling and emptying containers was a popular choice, as well as rolling, sorting and counting conkers. We heard some great mathematical language such as 'Big, small, round, heavy, more' etc. The weighing scales also prompted some good 'how?' and 'why?' questions.

We also read the story of 'The Selfish Crocodile'. The children enjoyed the story and thought about how all of the other creatures were feeling. They thought that the crocodile was "mean" and "bad" but found that he was "sorry" and "kind" in the end.

The story inspired one child to make their own 'Selfish Crocodile' and soon, all the children were busy drawing, cutting and sticking whilst making their creations.

We have been talking about how to use the scissors safely and are practicing our new found skills.

Maybe you could try this at home and share your pictures with us on Tapestry?
