Home grown delights 😋

Last week we planted some cress seeds and watched and waited as they grew. The children were fascinated to observe the changes and growth over a very short period of time. It was even more exciting this week, when we were able to taste our home grown delights!

The children tested out some new skills when making themselves a cress sandwich. Using a knife and buttering the bread proved tricky for some but our favourite part was "giving the cress a haircut" with scissors!

Some enjoyed the taste of the cress more than others;

"It tickled my throat"......"It tastes like grass"....."It's yummy like lettuce"

On Monday, we had a real treat, toasting marshmallows over a fire! The children learned about fire safety and we discussed how we must behave around the fire.

We listened to the sounds of the fire "crackling" and could "smell the smoke". The best part was tasting the "delicious", "yummy", "sticky" marshmallows!

Mr Earle then showed us a silver birch tree. He had previously made a cut in a branch and attached a container in order to collect the sap.

To our amazement, the container was almost full of a crystal clear liquid. We were able to taste the birch sap and found it very refreshing!
